'C' series car trailers set the highest standards of build, efficiency
and safety
Developed from the ground up to provide significant improvements in many
areas of car trailer design, the new Fountain Trailers 100, 200 and 300
'C' series are said to be stronger and smoother riding than existing designs.
In outline, 100, 200 and 300 'C' series models span payload capacities
of 900 to 1225kg, 1500 to 2000kg and 2000 to 2450kg with bed lengths,
depending on model, ranging from 3350mm to 4880mm (11 to 16ft) and bed
widths from 1650 to 1910mm.
The Integra axles are also new. Co-developed by Fountain with Al-Ko, Europe's
leading supplier of trailed vehicle components, the Integra trailer axle
features a unique independent suspension system.
Using established rubber suspension and damping technology, the axle's
outer tube has an irregular hexagonal form, with a three lobe inner tube
connecting to the wheel suspension arm. The rubber elements are sandwiched
between the tubes, the irregular shape of the two tubes having been developed
to provide progressive springing and damping through rolling the rubber
element.
During development, the Integra axle was shown to provide improved ride
characteristics, with far gentler reactions to road imperfections than
traditional designs and have a low centre of gravity. This helps improve
a trailers stability, particularly at higher speeds, and improve both
towing comfort and safety. An added feature of the Integra axle is the
use of additional mounting brackets for greater strength and stability.
Fountain
has also changed the way in which it builds 'C' series trailers. The major
sub-assemblies are made from laser cut blanks, this gives the new trailer
its high strength to low weight ratio. This high grade steel is then precision
pressed into the main trailer sub assemblies. Each sub assembly is then
individually galvanised and bolted together forming the complete trailer
chassis. Traditionally with other methods the steel is pre galvanised
before laser cutting and pressing, and all these exposed edges will in
turn corrode and can reduce the overall quality of the trailer.
"Car trailers are an integral part of motor sport," says Fountain
Trailers director Chris Fountain. "I know from my own 13 years of
experience of competing that moving a track car can be a real headache
without a decent towing vehicle and trailer. Our new 'C' series are designed
for both professional and keen amateur outfits, with a range of design
details that can make all the difference. Our comprehensive accessories
enable a given trailer to be specified to meet exacting individual demands."
